Winter weather causes traffic problems on I-80 near Gold Ranch | Bot To News

VERDI, Nev. (KOLO) – Winter driving conditions forced a Nevada State Trooper to direct traffic near the Gold Ranch exit off Interstate 80 early Sunday afternoon. Drivers had to wait hours for westbound traffic on I-80 to move.

“We just wanted to hit the slopes, we’re trying to get up into the mountains,” said Olivia Biery and her friends, who wanted to ski on fresh snow.

Hundreds of travelers were at the mercy of wintry weather conditions as the Nevada and California departments of transportation imposed requirements for vehicles attempting to make the trip.

“There are a lot of trucks stuck on the road and we can’t get anywhere,” Biery said.

Westbound I-80 looked like a parking lot for hours as Nevada State Police confirmed that truck drivers stopping to chain themselves caused the slowdown. But it offered little comfort to drivers who just wanted to get to their destination.

“We have work and we go to school in the morning, I have a final exam that I need to be there for, so I’m just trying to figure out how to get home,” said Justin Chapdelaine, a California resident who was stuck in traffic.
