1. Get ready to relax

Loose tailoring

The last decade has brought about a radical change in men’s attire, there’s no denying it. If you’ve been keeping an eye on the weather, you’ve often found sharp, super-thin suits everywhere from Thom Browne to J. Crew.

However, next year, things are going to loosen up slightly for next year (if the collections of the designer Willy Chavarria are any indication, for example). So think fit with more room to move around; remember that more relaxed clothing can still be tailored to the appropriate length while following the rules of acceptable menswear.

Think back to the old-school suits of the 1940s and 1950s: silhouettes were more relaxed but not baggy or sloppy. The same seems to be on the horizon for 2023.

2. Retro Reigns Supreme

Cheers to the 80s and 90s

Fashion is cyclical, often to the extreme, and if it bothers you to think of ’90s styles being mined for trend inspiration, join the club. Longstanding brands like LL Bean, a company as popular now as ever, have already welcomed the 90s with archive collections last year, and those throwback styles aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

What can you expect? Among other things, look out for color-blocked designs in vibrant hues, just like the ones your mom wore to take you to the park back in the day. This goes for everything from outerwear to sportswear, like Ralph Lauren’s iconic (and very much in vogue). chicken with logo. And that’s another thing: logos are back in a big way, and the more visible the better.

3. Show her in western clothes

Return to the Wild West in 2023

To move forward in matters of style, you have to go back, and you don’t need a Delorean to do that. As with the robust menswear revival of the mid-aughts, styles that fuse functionality and toughness are making a comeback in a big way, and none more so than Western wear.

You may have seen western clothing before like Phoebe Bridgers – is a style that can work for almost anyone, whether you prefer a richly tailored shirt or rugged western boots. The style is pleasantly retro, from another era and yet perfectly suited to today’s more casual dress standards.

Put it this way: When you want a change of pace from an Oxford shirt or a light spring chambray shirt, an eye-catching shirt with signature western stitching and snaps is a trending move to try.

4. What’s old is new

Bigger is better in the world of men’s pants

If you’ve spent any time online in the past month or so, you might have heard a distant buzz, chatter of the much-hyped (and very cool) “return” of J. Crew under new creative director Brendon Babenzien.

While a brand’s collection is nothing more than a taste of what’s to come, there was one item in particular from J. Crew’s fall collection that sent #menswear Twitter into a frenzy: The J. Crew Giant Chinesethe brand’s widest cut and a tribute to the 90s.

The fact that those particular pants are currently on backorder is really impressive, but it also speaks to men’s fashion trends for 2023. Notably, while slim or straight pants almost always favor many guys, the styles that relaxed in the pants department are having a major moment.

Again, think relaxed, but don’t go baggy or sloppy: get your pant size right, pair them with some footwear that offers some volume (thick loafers or combat boots, anyone?) and be prepared to send more than a few compliments and questions about this new (old) breed of pants.

5. Performance meets style

Anything goes with Athleisure in 2023

Stop us if you’ve heard this one (or something like it) before: Between the pandemic and a massive shift to working from home, casual performance menswear has taken center stage in 2020, 2021 and 2022. And yes, when it comes to mens fashion trends for 2023, those performance menswear choices aren’t going anywhere.

Maybe you find yourself wearing a crewneck sweatshirt or stretchy merino t-shirt every day, at home on Zoom, or back at the office from time to time. And maybe you’ve ditched dress pants in favor of stretchy chinos with a hidden drawstring waist (no belt needed anymore).

Mainstream brands like Audience Rec and high profile trendsetters such as the famous John Elliott they’re going beyond the gym in a big way in that regard, but no one will be the wiser if they’re actually comfortable, not stuffed into pre-pandemic dress pants.

6. Jump to the hybrid

Cross-over shoes blur the line between dressy and casual

Before, shoes were clearly separated into easily identifiable categories. Dress shoes, work boots, sneakers, maybe casual sneakers, all easy to define, right? But when something in the tides of menswear changes and then continues to hold, it’s definitely a trend worth highlighting and using as one of the best menswear trends of 2023, of course.

What do we mean by that? Well, where you once had your favorite pair of sneakers and your favorite pair of boots separately, for example, those styles are being combined in ever more impressive ways.

Call them “sneaker boots” or “hybrid shoes,” but they’re all about Cole Haan infusion dress shoes with sports technology or Loew making incredibly cool hiking sneakers, it’s never been easier to find shoes that sit in the middle of two opposite sides of a footwear Venn diagram.

There’s still a time and place for classic sneakers and lace-up boots, but if you want to put a little spring in your step, while wearing boots that go well with those new joggers, then you should go for hybrid footwear. your move for 2023.
