Free deliveries and exclusive offers are great, but it’s worth getting an Amazon Prime subscription for free access to Prime Video. The streaming service is home to great original content and lets you rent and buy the latest movies, subscribe to channels (depending on region), and even watch live streams of concerts and sports. But like any app on our phones, computers, and smart TVs, there are times when Prime Video might malfunction. Here’s a look at some common Amazon Prime Video problems and how to fix them.

Problem #1: Streaming problems with Prime Video

Why not roll multiple seasons into one listing?

You may experience buffering, slow load times, or a video not playing on Prime Video with error code 1060. This error code and related streaming issues are usually associated with bandwidth and network connection issues. 1060 is the most common, and you can find 1007, 1022, 7031, 7135, 7202, 7203, 7204, 7206, 7207, 7230, 7250, 73051, 730, 73051, 730, 7300, 7300, 7300, 7300, 73000, 73000, 73000, 73000, 73000, 73000, 73000, 73000, 73000, 73000, 73000, 73000, 73000 9003, and 9074.

Possible Solutions:

  • These error codes may be due to internet connection or bandwidth issues. Amazon recommends speeds of at least 1Mbps for SD content, 5Mbps for HD content and 25Mbps for 4K UHD titles. Run a network speed test on your phone or computer to see if you’re getting the speed you need. If you’re experiencing Wi-Fi connection issues, check out our guide on how to fix them.
  • If you’re using a media streaming device to watch Prime video on a TV, make sure the HDMI cable meets HDCP 1.4 (for HD content) and HDCP 2.2 (for UHD and HDR content) standards. Make sure the cable is not frayed or broken and is in working condition. You may need a new HDMI cable to resolve your streaming issues.

Problem #2: More flow problems

Your Prime Video streaming problems may not be related to hardware or network connection. Rather, it may be due to settings and too many concurrent streams.

Possible Solutions:

  • Prime Video automatically detects the best possible video quality for streaming, but if you see poor video quality you can change it and force it to choose the best option. While watching a video on your phone, browser or smart TV, go to the gear icon in the top right corner and select better Stream to the highest video quality setting to view. It will also tell you how much data each tier is using, so make sure you have enough data if you’re using mobile service. If you have bandwidth issues, keep in mind that you will see excessive buffering and slow load times at the highest quality setting.
  • Poor video quality on your smart TV may be due to the motion smoothing setting. Motion smoothing is a great setting to turn on when watching games (now you can do it on Prime Video), but it makes most movies and TV shows look bad. It is best to disable the option on your TV if possible. Depending on the TV manufacturer, it’s called Action Smoothing, Auto Motion, Tru Motion, Motion Flow, and more.
  • You can sign in to Prime Video on multiple devices, but Amazon limits the number of simultaneous streams to three. If three devices are already watching shows and movies on Prime Video, it won’t work on a fourth. However, Prime Video allows two simultaneous streams of the same title.
  • Check how many devices are signed in to your Prime Video account and remove unused ones. Open the Prime Video website, click on your profile icon in the top right corner, and go Accounts & Settings > Your Devices (tab)and select Unregister Next to the devices you want to remove.
  • RAM management on your device will also stop Prime Video from working properly. This may not be a common problem, but one I encountered. Videos wouldn’t load, and the video quality was terrible because I had so many Chrome tabs open at the end. To solve this problem, close additional tabs and close apps running in the background of your phone.

Problem #3: Payments don’t work on Prime Video

You can rent or buy titles and subscribe to channels on Prime Video. But if you see error code 2063, your payment option is not working. You may also see other payment related error codes such as 2016, 2021, 2023, 2026, 2027, 2028, 2029, 2040, 2041, 2043, 2044, 2047, 2048, or 7035.

Possible Solutions:

  • Click on your profile icon and go Accounts & Settings > Your Account (tab) and scroll down Payment processing. Make sure 1-click payment is enabled to let you rent or buy TV shows and movies. This may be a different card than the one you use for your Prime subscription. Click change To select a different card.
  • Your Prime Video channel subscriptions are linked to your Prime Account Payment Card. Make sure the card you choose allows online transactions and verify payment details. You can find the option Your account Tab under Basic contribution Part.
  • Of course, payments will fail if you don’t have a sufficient balance on a debit card or an available limit on a credit card. Change the card to an alternate option to make sure your payments go through.

Problem #4: Sign-in, sign-out, and account issues

You may see error code 5004 if you’re having trouble signing in to your Prime Video account. Error codes 5014 or 5016 will pop up when your Prime Video profile PIN doesn’t work.

Possible Solutions:

  • Make sure you use the correct email address and password to sign in to your account. If you’ve enabled two-factor authentication, you’ll need access to the device with the Authenticator app.
  • The problem may be due to internal server issues so try logging in again after a few minutes. Check if the service is down or sites like Down Detector to see if there are problems with Amazon.
  • If you still can’t sign in, you may want to change your password. Click on a Forgot your password Go through the password reset steps on the login page and confirmation email.
  • To sign out of Prime Video, click on your profile icon and select get away. If you are unable to sign in for any reason, you can deregister the device instead. Click the profile icon and go Settings & Accounts > Your Devices And click Unregister Next to the ones you want to remove.
  • You can set up a Prime Video PIN to approve purchases and enable parental controls. If your PIN doesn’t work, go Settings & Accounts > Parental Controls and reset your PIN. Remember that the PIN only works for one device. You’ll need to set up a new PIN on every device with Prime Video to get parental controls across the board.

Problem #6: Prime Video app is freezing or crashing

Prime Video can freeze or crash frequently like any smartphone or smart TV app.

Possible Solutions:

  • Update the app to the latest version. This is one of the most common problems with a smart TV, as you have forgotten to turn on auto-update. Open the Google Play Store and go Settings > Auto-update appsand activate Update automatically at any time.
  • Clear app cache and storage to fix app crash issues. Check out our guides on how to clear cache on Android, on Amazon Fire TV or Fire TV Stick, and in a browser. Clearing the app storage will erase your saved login information, so you’ll have to sign in to your account again.
  • If nothing else works try deleting and reinstalling the Prime Video app. Otherwise, the only option is to wait for a software update to fix the problem.
